Jeanine Horton was named MVP in leading Riverside North (9-3) to its third consecutive championship of the Riverside County girls’ basketball tournament between Christmas and New Year’s Day. She averaged 14 points and seven rebounds in North’s three games. . . . Lori Johnson was named the MVP in leading Rancho Cucamonga to the championship of the Palm Desert girls’ basketball tournament. She had 14 points in the final, a 54-51 victory over Estancia. . . . In the fifth-place game of that tournament, Tania Totten scored 23 points and had 12 rebounds in a 40-33 victory over Calexico. . . . Tanisha Tatum, a freshman left wing for the Palm Springs girls’ soccer team, scored two goals in the Indians’ 4-2 victory over Palm Desert. She has 20 goals in 13 games. . . . Perris defeated Riverside Poly, 54-45, to win the Riverside County boys’ basketball tournament. Perris sophomore Damon Jackson was named the tournament’s MVP. . . . Caleb Gervin of Cathedral City scored 30 points in a 79-76 loss to Banning.
