North Hollywood : 6 Accused of Running Unlicensed Home

Share

Six people charged with running a convalescent home without a license are scheduled for arraignment Jan. 17 in Los Angeles Municipal Court, according to a lawyer with the city attorney’s office.

Deputy City Atty. P. Greg Parham, who is handling the case, said that criminal charges were filed Dec. 21 against the owners and managers of Magnolia Villa, a convalescent home for senior citizens at 10537 Magnolia Blvd.

Among those charged were four members of a partnership that owns the home: Sara Friedman, 44, of Tarzana; Stanley Diller, 69, of Hancock Park; and David Einhorn, 60, and Morris Ganger, 72, of the Fairfax district. Also charged were Juliet Quiane, 41, of North Hollywood, the current director of the facility, and Paulina Pedraja, 61, of North Hollywood, a former director.

The state Department of Social Services rejected the home’s application for a license after an inspection of the facility last April turned up what the department called “operating deficiencies.” According to Parham, inspectors reported poor sanitary conditions and found that police had visited the site numerous times in response to allegations of drug dealing.

The hearing will be held in Division 83 of the Municipal Court.
