Council to Discuss Caltrans Road Plan

Share

An agreement with Caltrans over construction of high-occupancy-vehicle lanes on Gene Autry Way is among topics that the City Council will consider at its meeting Tuesday.

The $10.8-million construction project would be related to the massive Santa Ana Freeway widening project, scheduled to begin in Anaheim in December. The $1-billion Anaheim portion of the freeway widening is to be completed in 2000.

Funding for the work on Gene Autry Way would come from the city and the Orange County Transportation Authority.

Also on the council’s agenda for Tuesday is a proposal to begin negotiations with SpectraNet International on a universal telecommunications system that would use fiber-optic cables.

Under the plan, the city and SpectraNet would be partners in developing the system, which would allow high-speed data and video transmissions. One loop of the telecommunications system would be built within a year to 18 months after negotiations are completed.

That loop would serve commercial, industrial and government users. The fiber-optic system would eventually be extended into residential areas.
