The 47-year-old wife of soul singer James Brown, recovering from elective surgery at a Beverly Hills facility, died Saturday, authorities said.

Adrienne Lois Brown, a Georgia resident, was pronounced dead shortly after noon at Century City Hospital, where she was taken by paramedics, according to a statement released by the hospital.

The cause of death was unknown. County coroner’s spokesman Scott Carrier said Brown’s death appeared to be of natural causes. Hospital spokeswoman Lisa Gaines told the Associated Press there was no indication that it was related to the surgery or that foul play was involved.

Doctors “don’t know” why Brown died, Gaines said.

Paramedics were called Saturday morning to a Beverly Hills after-care facility where Brown was recovering from an undisclosed surgical procedure performed in a doctor’s office two days earlier, according to the hospital’s statement.

Attempts to resuscitate Brown were unsuccessful, the statement said.

A former hairstylist who worked for television shows, Adrienne Brown was married to Brown for more than 10 years.
