A 24-year-old Oxnard woman died Monday after being thrown from her car when it overturned on the Simi Valley Freeway in Moorpark.

Roslyn Hogsett died at 2:25 p.m. while in surgery at Simi Valley Hospital, about four hours after the accident east of Collins Road.

The eastbound lanes of the highway at Collins Road were closed from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. while the California Highway Patrol investigated and cleared the accident.

Hogsett, who had been driving a 1993 Ford Explorer, was eastbound on the highway when a brown Toyota moved into her lane, said CHP Officer Dave Cockrill.

To try to avoid the car, Hogsett swerved her Explorer into the center divider, then back onto the highway. As she did so, the vehicle overturned twice and she was ejected, Cockrill said.

She was not wearing a seat belt, Cockrill said.

There was no contact between the Toyota and Hogsett’s car. The driver of the brown Toyota did not stop, Cockrill said.

“It is unknown whether the Toyota cut her off or she overreacted,” Cockrill said. “If there were any witnesses, we are asking them to contact us.”

Witnesses may call the CHP at 654-4711.
