Duck Hunters Are Back in Season

Duck hunters again are able to hunt on federal wildlife refuges and fishermen again are able to cast their lines in waters within federally governed parks, thanks to the temporary resolution to the government shutdown.

“The action comes in time to save the last three weekends of the duck season, which closes Jan. 21,” a news release by the California Department of Fish and Game said.

DFG waterfowl programs conducted on federal wildlife refuges had been closed during the shutdown, which meant the agency had to accommodate hunters on a first-come, first-serve basis on DFG-administered lands.

Also affected by the shutdown were several waters popular among Southland anglers, including Lake Mead, Willow Beach and Lake Mohave, all within the Lake Mead National Recreation Area.
