8-Day Festival of Words, Music Set in Culver City
Music and poetry readings by Kamau Daaood, Manuel Luna, Russell Leong and Canta Luz will highlight the eight-day Nommo International Word Smith Festival starting Monday at the California Coffee House, 4455 Overland Ave., in Culver City.
Daaood will be joined on opening night by Reuben Guevara, Chung Mi Kim, Doug Knot, Sequoia Mecier, OJenke and Eric Priestly in “Elements of Ivory and Dusk” at 8:30 p.m.
Other programs feature Luna and Saundra Sharp in “Mystic Musings and Musk and Tamarindo” on Tuesday, Leong in “Emeralds of Sand” on Wednesday, Eloise Klein Healey in “Mirrored Ceilings” on Thursday, Will Alexander in “Ecclesiastic Tapestries” next Friday, Cecilia Brainard on Jan. 20 in “Urban Islands,” Luz with Mari Sunaida on Jan. 21 in “Women Who Weave Words Into Light and Light Into Words” and Peter J. Harris and Trey Ellis on Jan. 22 in “Syllabic Reservoirs.”
