KGRB Brings End to Era
The demise of KGRB radio as a big-band station is truly a blow against diversity and culture (Morning Report, Dec. 29). At a time when swing music is keen again among us young people, via local bandleaders like Joey Altruda and Tony Bennett’s Grammy-winning new albums, does L.A. really need another Spanish music station?
Sure, there’s a button on my car radio set to a Spanish station; I have a thing for Spanish ballads. But without a button for big-band music on KGRB, the appeal of AM radio has seriously waned.
Having traveled in radio hinterlands such as Bavaria, Nicaragua and New Jersey, I’ve become aware and am very grateful for the wide variety of radio here in L.A. Variety is education. Radio is education.
Los Angeles is not the same.
