Saku Koivu and Brian Savage scored in the final 3:21 as the Montreal Canadiens survived blowing a three-goal lead and rallied to defeat the Pittsburgh Penguins, 6-5, Friday night at Pittsburgh.

Petr Nedved had put Pittsburgh ahead, 5-4, when he jammed in a loose puck with 9:15 to play.

Koivu scored on a power play and Savage whipped a shot from the top of the left circle over Tom Barrasso’s glove with 1:59 to play. Koivu had a goal and three assists.

The goal was Savage’s first point since Dec. 30. He had been scoreless in five games since.

Calgary 3, Buffalo 1--Gary Roberts continued his comeback from two career-threatening neck operations, scoring three goals as the Flames won at Calgary.

The left wing, who underwent surgery in March and again in October, had been sidelined for 89 games, including playoff games, before coming back Wednesday night against Hartford. Roberts’ hat trick was the eighth of his career.

The victory--Calgary’s season-high third in a row--also ended a successful homestand for the Flames, who went 6-2-0.

Hartford 3, Winnipeg 2--Geoff Sanderson scored late in the third period as the Whalers battled back from a two-goal deficit to win at Winnipeg.

The Whalers scored the winning goal with 1:58 to play on a scramble in front of goalie Tim Cheveldae. Sanderson was credited for the goal, which went in off Alexei Zhamnov’s skate.
