An Oxnard man who allegedly pulled a knife on a 13-year-old boy and robbed him of 75 cents remained in County Jail on Wednesday in lieu of $50,000 bail.

Anthony Manning, 19, was arrested on suspicion of robbery and attempted robbery Tuesday afternoon in Oxnard after the boy and an adult victim identified him.

The boy was taking out the trash from his Channel Islands Boulevard home when Manning approached him, police said. The boy did not know his attacker, police said.

“The guy pulls a knife and demands money, so the kid reached into his pocket and gave him what he had, which was only 75 cents,” Oxnard Officer Joe Tinoco said.

The boy’s mother called 911, and when Tinoco arrived, “there were tears coming down [the boy’s] face,” Tinoco said. “He was basically terrified.”

Tinoco heard a description of the robber, and saw Manning moments later at his residence down the street. He said he found three quarters and one penny in Manning’s pockets.

Manning is also charged with attempting to rob Oxnard resident Bruce Perez, 26, just before the boy was held up at knifepoint.

The boy got his money back: Police returned 75 cents to him after Manning’s arrest.
