TV Star Sentenced to 30 Days in Jail

A Ventura County judge Thursday sentenced television celebrity Sasha Mitchell to 30 days in jail and fined his lawyer $250 for skipping court appearances.

Mitchell, 28, of Westlake, who appeared in court for his sentencing, last missed a scheduled court date Jan. 3, when he was supposed to explain why he had not complied with any of the terms of his probation. His attorney, David Dudley of Los Angeles, also failed to show up.

It was the third time in two months that Mitchell had missed a court date.

Mitchell pleaded no contest last September to beating his 25-year-old pregnant wife and was placed on three years probation.

But Probation Department officials said that Mitchell has not complied with any of their terms, which include contacting a probation officer, spending 10 days picking up trash along Ventura County freeways and signing up for counseling sessions.

Mitchell will have to spend 30 nights in the Ventura County Jail starting Feb. 1, although Municipal Judge Bruce A. Clark said Mitchell can continue working during his incarceration.

Mitchell stars on the ABC show “Step by Step,” which airs Friday nights.

The professional kick boxer was accused of hitting and kicking his wife on two separate occasions in April.

He pleaded no contest to misdemeanor charges of spousal abuse, battery and child endangerment.
