A woman was killed and several other people were injured when a car ran a red light and hit two pedestrians standing on a Van Nuys corner, police said Tuesday.

The accident occurred about 9:45 p.m. Monday when a driver steering a Hyundai east on Sherman Way ran a red light and collided with a Toyota that was making a left turn onto Kester Avenue, Los Angeles Police Officer Jim Thompson said.

After hitting the Toyota, the Hyundai spun out of control and ran into two pedestrians standing on the southeast corner of the intersection, killing one and injuring the other, Thompson said.

Maria Dominguez, 21, of Van Nuys, was rushed to Northridge Hospital Medical Center, where she later died. Roberto Becerra, 20, of Van Nuys, who was standing next to Dominguez, suffered a concussion and pain in his right leg, Thompson said. The driver of the Hyundai, Ahlilah Longmire, 18, of Reseda, complained of pain as did the driver of the Toyota.

The accident is under investigation and will probably be reviewed by the Los Angeles city attorney’s office for a decision on whether charges will be filed, Thompson said.
