Rose Magdalin Lunde, a longtime Ventura resident and homemaker, died Thursday after a long illness. She was 91.

After graduating from high school, Lunde worked in a casket factory and then a candy factory before meeting her husband, Norman.

The couple were married May 2, 1921, and began raising their family in Oshkosh and Evansville, Wis., before moving to California in 1950.

After spending a few years in Monterey Park and Palmdale, the family moved to Ventura.

In addition to raising her four children, Lunde was an avid refunder, sometimes spending as much as several hours a day clipping coupons and rebate orders.

Her banana bread was a favorite among her grandchildren, said her son, Loren.

“She was a very giving person,” he said. “She had a neighbor who went to prison and she would send him money.”

Lunde is survived by a daughter, Shirley O’Connell of Arleta; three sons, Del of Grass Valley, and Ken and Loren, both of Ventura; a brother, Wilbert Zimmerman of Grass Valley; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Memorial services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Chapel of Ivy Lawn Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Guardian Memorial Funeral Directors & Crematory in Oxnard.
