Oman Reports Trade Agreement With Israel
Israel and Oman signed an agreement Saturday to set up commercial interest offices in each other’s countries in the first such deal between the Jewish state and a Gulf Arab state, Oman’s Foreign Ministry said.
The Foreign Ministry said the accord “comes as part of the peace process in the Middle East on the bilateral and multilateral level and is aimed at achieving a comprehensive and lasting peace in the region.” The statement did not specify when the trade offices will be established.
The agreement is the first such step by a member of the Gulf Cooperation Council, which includes Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait.
