The Vid Makes Late Charge, Wins Canadian Turf ‘Cap
The Vid collared Warning Glance turning for home and won the $100,000 Canadian Turf Handicap by 2 1/2 lengths at Gulfstream on Saturday.
Gone For Real was second in the Grade 2 race over 1 1/8 miles with Warning Glance third in a field of five.
The Vid was heavily favored and paid $2.60, $2.10 and $2.10. Gone For Real paid $2.20 and $2.10. Warning Glance paid $2.10 to show.
Warning Glance, the only horse in the field with early speed, took the lead easily, but The Vid moved into second and stayed close.
Herb McCauley and The Vid then made their move, breezing to the front on the outside as they turned for home.
Wekiva Springs, a horse that began its career in the Southland, was scratched from the race.
