San Fernando : 5 Finalists in Contest to Rename Bus Service
The city of San Fernando’s new bus service won’t be named the following:
Speedy Ride, The Golden Thumb, Get Around, Wheels on Fire, Hot Wheels, Mission People-Mover or The Sea Gull.
Those were among the 80 names rejected by a city parks commission in a contest to pick a new name for the 12-year-old bus service presently known as Dial-a-Ride.
City officials recently announced the retirement of two aging Dial-a-Ride buses and the purchase of two new ones. Riders can call the service to schedule a trip to the grocery store or a doctor’s appointment. The cost is 75 cents one way; 50 cents for seniors.
The five finalists in the new-name contest are: San Fernando Citi-Link, Mission Transit, Mission City Transit, Citizen Link and City Ride.
The winner, to be announced at the San Fernando City Council meeting Monday, will receive a one-year bus pass for the service and dinner for two at a local restaurant.
