7 Accused of Making Phony Documents

Share

Police and immigration agents have arrested seven men on suspicion of running a major operation making phony government documents such as social security and green cards.

Santa Ana police and Immigration and Naturalization Service agents had been watching a house in the 900 block of South Cypress Street for several weeks after neighbors reported seeing “illegal card sales activity,” Police Sgt. Bob Clark said.

On Tuesday, officers carrying a federal search warrant seized typewriters, laminating equipment, transaction records, an unknown amount of cash and document forms from the house, Clark said.

Police said the operation also produced fake Department of Motor Vehicle identification cards and resident alien cards, known as green cards.

Authorities detained 21 people in the area, police said. Following interviews, seven were arrested and booked into Santa Ana City Jail, eight were taken into INS custody for deportation proceedings and six were released.
