Workshop to Cover Aid for Libraries
Library backers are invited to a conference in Ventura today to learn how to drum up financial support for the county’s 16 branches.
Directors from the Santa Cruz and Monterey County library systems will lead the session. The event is sponsored by the Black Gold Cooperative Library System, an agency providing services to the region’s libraries.
The conference will begin at 9 a.m. at the Poinsettia Pavilion, 3451 Foothill Road, Ventura. Admission is free.
The program, which ends at 12:30 p.m., will begin with presentations, then participants will break up into small groups for workshops. A panel made up of people behind library support campaigns in Ventura County will also share their experiences.
“[Library backers] will have more information about who are the people they should be talking to about public library support,” said Judith Segel, Black Gold director.
Ventura County’s Library Services Agency is in the middle of a funding crisis.
Agency officials have warned that they may have to close up to seven of the system’s libraries by the end of June if no new source of money materializes.
Segel said her organization timed the event in anticipation of five parcel tax measures for libraries that will appear on the March ballot.
