So, how welcome and overdue is this volume celebrating the unique offerings of California garden designs, some designed by contemporary landscapers, including the author, others well-tended historic wonders. Beautiful photography by Mick Hales complements Goslee Power’s well-observed details about each estate, private home or public garden visited. Landscapes run the gamut--from Spanish beginnings and influences through classic estate gardens; wild, naturalistic landscapes; cottage gardens rooted in California flora; grand estates and contemporary gardens attached to modern homes. A source of ideas and inspiration for gardeners dealing with small spaces or more expansive estates.
