Across the Generations

AFC Tours, a 16-year-old company that specializes in tours for grandparents and their grandchildren, has created a new menu of U.S. tours for 1996. The following series of tours lists per-person prices for two, three or four in a room with two double beds or rollaways. Prices include round-trip air fare and shuttle service between residence and airport in Los Angeles and San Diego, deluxe motor coaches with restrooms, beverages on the coaches, tour manager, tips, most meals, plus T-shirts for the grandkids and a souvenir photo for grandparents. Children must be at least 7. Specialty tours include:

* Week in Washington, D.C., July 1-7--Sightseeing includes all traditional monuments and memorials. Lodging provided for seven days at the Holiday Inn (rooftop swimming pool) located near the Air & Space Museum and the Metro subway station. Side trips include Mt. Vernon, U.S. Naval Academy and Gettysburg. Prices per person for two $1,375; for three $1,290 each; for four $1,245 each. For ages 7 to 11 deduct $45 for discounted meals and admissions.

* New York City, New Jersey and Philadelphia, July 1-7--Three nights in Manhattan’s Days Hotel and three nights in Philadelphia’s Holiday Inn Independence Mall across from the Liberty Bell and Betsy Ross House. Includes day trip to Valley Forge and the Amish country. Price per person for two $1,395 each; for three $1,310 each; for four $1,255 each. For children 7-11 deduct $55 per child for discounted meals and admissions.

* Week in Boston. July 1-7--Includes visits to Cambridge, Salem, Lexington, Concord and Plymouth. Lodging provided for all six nights at the Holiday Inn Government Center in downtown Boston. Includes Plymouth Rock, Salem museums, Mayflower II, Plimouth Plantation. Includes comprehensive Boston area sightseeing plus Fourth of July Boston Pops Concert on the Charles River with fireworks. Price per person for two $1,449 each; for three $1,355 each; for four $1,295 each. For children 7-11 deduct $70 per child for discounted meals and admissions.

* Cowboys and Canyons, April 1-5 in Nevada and Utah--Four nights at the Players Island Resort Hotel in Mesquite, Nev., on the Arizona border. Visit Las Vegas, Hoover Dam, two national parks--Bryce and Zion with an IMAX movie at Zion. Free day for golf, tennis or swimming, gaming for adults. Prices per person for two $575 each; for three $552 each; for four $540 each. For ages 7 to 11 deduct $20 per child for discounted meals and attractions.
