This week’s offering of Shakespeare: The Animated Tales (Sunday, 7:30 p.m. HBO) will be “Richard III,” the Bard’s chronicling of the usurper king and his bloody ambition. For ages 8 and up.

KTLA airs Disney’s 1951 animated Alice in Wonderland (Sunday, 11 a.m.) featuring the voices of Kathryn Beaumont, Ed Wynn and Sterling Holloway. The local channel also airs Disney’s 1964’s Mary Poppins (4 p.m.) starring Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke. For ages 4 and up.

MTV Oddities (Tuesdays, 10 p.m.) features strange characters in unusual worlds and situations. This week’s program marks a new season with seven new shows. For ages 13 and up.

Rah, rah, sis boom bah! Amazing America (Thursday 7:30 p.m. The Learning Channel) first visits a cheerleading convention in Nashville, where the country’s best try to prove there’s more to being No. 1 than high kicks and pompoms. Try big smiles, loud voices and lots of stamina. The show also heads to Britt, Ohio, for the annual Hobo Convention, where the nomadic life is honored through poems, songs and the camaraderie of hobo culture. For ages 8 and up.

Leslie Nielsen narrates Katie and Orbie (Saturdays, 9:30 a.m. KCET), a new animated 13-part series that helps children with first-time experiences. Exploring the new mysteries of life are Katie, an inquisitive 5-year-old, and her space alien bud Orbie. For ages 2 to 6.

Athletes and musicians encourage kids to stay in school in the sixth annual NBA All Star Youth Celebration (Saturday, noon Nickelodeon). For ages 6 and up.

Muppets and human actors star in Disney’s upcoming feature “Muppet Treasure Island.” As an appertif, the Disney Channel airs The Making of Muppet Treasure Island (Saturday, 8:35 p.m.). Tim Curry stars as Long John Silver, Kevin Bishop as Jim Hawkins, Kermit the Frog as Captain Smollett and Miss Piggy is Benjamina Gunn (a role created just for her). For ages 2 and up.
