Man May Be Tried for Robbery, Assault
An 18-year-old Thousand Oaks man faces a preliminary hearing this month to determine if he should stand trial on nine felony counts related to a series of robberies and attempted sexual assaults.
Juan Diego Carrillo was arrested Sunday shortly after a 45-year-old Thousand Oaks woman was attacked at knifepoint in a grocery store parking lot. The woman escaped unharmed, and Carrillo was arrested nearby after a brief foot chase.
Investigators also suspect that Carrillo robbed and attempted to sexually assault two women on separate occasions last month in Thousand Oaks near The Oaks mall. Carrillo pleaded not guilty Tuesday to three counts each of attempted rape, robbery and assault with a deadly weapon.
He remains jailed in lieu of $100,000 bail. His preliminary hearing is set for Feb. 21.
