Valley Feels Record Heat; More to Come

Share

Just one week after the biggest rainstorm of the season, record heat baked the San Fernando Valley on Wednesday.

In Burbank, afternoon temperatures reached 91 degrees by 4 p.m., breaking by three degrees the old record for the date set in 1954, according to the National Weather Service.

Woodland Hills was even hotter, with an afternoon high of 92 degrees, or 24 degrees above average.

In Canoga Park, the previous record high of 87 degrees was set in 1953. Forecasters no longer take readings from that area, but said that with the mercury topping 88 degrees in Northridge and 89 degrees in Van Nuys, it was logical to assume that record had been broken or at least tied.

Rob Kaczmarek, a forecaster with WeatherData, said the temperatures may be just as high today and will probably remain above normal through Friday.
