The city’s Redevelopment Agency has won an achievement award from an industry publication for the agency’s efforts to improve the city’s downtown.

Business Facilities magazine’s annual economic development achievement award was presented to the agency at the City Council meeting Tuesday.

The awards are given to agencies showing innovation and creativity in a long-term project to spur economic growth, officials said.

Brea was recognized for its Business Reentry Program, in which some businesses have been enticed to relocate in a 7 1/2-acre agency-owned property east of Brea Boulevard and south of Cypress Avenue.

Sales revenue has generally increased, in one case as much as 45%, for each of the nine relocated companies, officials said. Facilities are still under construction for three other firms that will move to the area.
