CBS Moves to Quash Brown & Williamson Subpoenas: Westinghouse Electric Corp.’s television network won a protective order in New York State Supreme Court delaying the depositions, which were to begin today, at least until a hearing Thursday, when a judge will consider quashing the subpoenas for testimony from Mike Wallace and other employees. Brown & Williamson Tobacco Corp., a Louisville, Ky.-based unit of BAT Industries, obtained subpoenas last week to interview CBS journalists and executives to obtain outtakes from “60 Minutes” interviews with Jeffrey Wigand, a former B&W; employee. B&W; is suing Wigand for alleged theft and breach of his confidentiality agreements with the company. Wigand has countersued, arguing the contracts are invalid.
