First American Honors: Cherokee actor Litefoot (“The Indian in the Cupboard”) and Sampson Band actress Crystal Lightning will be honored at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Feb. 24 as best actor and actress in a film during the fourth annual First Americans in the Arts Awards, designed to recognize Native American contributions in film, television and music. Additional honorees include Canadian country singer Shania Twain for outstanding musical achievement; Elaine Miles, best actress in a TV series, for “Northern Exposure”; Rodney Grant, best actor in a TV series, for the syndicated program “Hawkeye”; Wes Studi, best supporting actor in a TV movie, for “Larry McMurtry’s Streets of Laredo”; and Graham Greene, best performance in a “nontraditional role,” for the movie “Die Hard With a Vengeance.” In addition, Buffy Sainte-Marie will receive a Lifetime Musical Achievement Award, and Walt Disney Co. will receive the Humanitarian Award.
