Church Plans New Sanctuary Building
Hoping to expand its facilities on Conejo School Road, the First Church of Christ, Scientist is scheduled to take its plans for a new sanctuary building to the Thousand Oaks Planning Commission on Monday.
The project would create a new, 4,752-square-foot sanctuary auditorium next to the current church building, located near the intersection with Hillcrest Drive. The auditorium would seat 170 people, about 50% more than can fit comfortably into the current building.
With the new building in place, the church would also renovate the older building, expanding the Sunday school and child-care area inside. To handle the increased traffic, the church would build 87 parking spaces on the lot.
