McMahan, Bradshaw Lead Titan Women Past Irvine

Justine McMahan scored 21 points and Shayla Bradshaw 20 as Cal State Fullerton beat UC Irvine, 80-67, in a Big West Conference women’s basketball game Sunday at Titan Gym.

The Titans (5-16, 2-10 in conference) extended a four-point halftime lead into double figures in the second half. Irvine (9-12, 4-8), which lost its fourth consecutive game, closed to seven points on Allah-mi Basheer’s basket with 1 minute 6 seconds left, but Fullerton scored the final six points.

Princess Hatcher scored 24 points and Leticia Oseguera scored 18 for the Anteaters.

In another Big West Conference women’s basketball game:

Long Beach State 83, Nevada Las Vegas 68--Kim Barfield scored a career-high 32 points and Akia Hardy had 25 points and 10 assists for the visiting 49ers (12-10, 7-6), who trailed by one point at the half.

It stayed close until Long Beach went on a 23-9 run that started with 12 minutes left and ended at the four-minute mark.

In nonconference baseball:

Long Beach State 3, California 1--Marcus Jones, a sophomore from Esperanza, gave up three hits and one run in seven innings and JoJo Zimmer had two hits, scored a run and drove in another in the 17th-ranked 49ers’ victory over No. 5 Cal in Berkeley. Ryan Brannan, a transfer from Miami who played at Huntington Beach High, didn’t give up a hit in two innings and earned the save.

In nonconference softball:

Chapman 2-1, CS Dominguez Hills 1-6--Lisa Cancilla and Christy Guidorizzi each drove in a run in the third inning of the first game to lead the Panthers, the defending NCAA Division III champions. Guidorizzi pitched a four-hitter, striking out eight and giving up only an unearned run in the fourth inning.

Division II Dominguez Hills scored two in the first and three in the second inning of the second game.
