Moorpark’s top planner is planning on leaving.

Jaime “Jim” Aguilera, who served for 2 1/2 years as director of the city’s Community Development Department, turned in his letter of resignation last week , Moorpark City Councilman Bernardo Perez said.

“I have to say I’m sad to see him go but I’m glad for him. I think this is a move up,” Perez said.

Aguilera is headed to Cathedral City, near Palm Springs, to take charge of that city’s planning department.

Aguilera is leaving just as plans for several large housing developments are being reviewed by Moorpark. The largest under review is the 3,221-home Hidden Creek Ranch development being proposed by Messenger Investment Corp. of Irvine.

It could take several months to fill the post, and city leaders said they hoped that Aguilera’s departure won’t cause any delays.

“He’s leaving just as things are starting to heat up,” Mayor Paul Lawrason said.
