Criminal charges were filed Wednesday against a Chatsworth woman accused of offering counterfeit Chanel merchandise for sale at a boutique booth she was operating at the Encino Glen Golf Course in Encino, Los Angeles City Atty. James K. Hahn said.
Shelley Weinstein-Faigenblat, 44, was arrested Sept. 16 by Los Angeles police called to the golf course’s banquet room by a private detective retained by Chanel to investigate trademark counterfeiting, according to Deputy City Atty. Mark Lambert, a prosecutor in the city’s Consumer Protection Unit.
Following the arrest, officers confiscated 28 handbags and a scarf bearing counterfeited Chanel trademarks, Lambert said.
Weinstein-Faigenblat is scheduled to be arraigned March 5 in Los Angeles Municipal Court. She is charged with possession of counterfeit merchandise, a misdemeanor that carries a maximum penalty of one year in jail and a $5,000 fine.
