Juan Manuel Mora needed directions. What he got was arrested.

Narcotics officers from the Ventura County sheriff’s and Los Angeles police departments were in the process of arresting Alvaro Valencia Magana, 28, at his home Wednesday when the phone rang.

Up to that point, they had found only 3/4 of an ounce of heroin and an ounce of methamphetamine, said Ventura deputies, who said Magana was under investigation for allegedly transporting heroin to Oxnard.

The phone call, however, was from Mora, seeking directions so he could deliver more heroin to the house, officers said.

Detectives learned he was at a nearby phone booth, arrested him there and confiscated about 20 ounces of heroin, the officers said.
