Fullerton College’s Business Environmental Assistance Center has won Renew America’s National Environmental Award.

The award is given each year to programs across the nation that demonstrate leadership and excellence in environmental matters, district officials said.

The college’s Business Environmental Assistance Center was established in 1991 in response to the loss of 800,000 jobs in California as major employers relocated, many moving to states with less stringent environmental regulations, college officials said.

The center provides information and assistance to small and mid-size businesses that are having difficulty meeting environmental standards or dealing with related issues.

“Most of our services are free, which is a benefit to businesses that can’t afford to hire consultants,” program director Marshall Gartenlaub said.
