Share

A 19-year-old man was sentenced to life in prison without possibility of parole for the 1994 shooting death of an ice cream vendor in Inglewood.

Judge Francis J. Hourigan sentenced Antonio Dejuan Jones to three life terms plus 18 years for killing Refugio Garcia, 44, and wounding his 42-year-old wife, Carmen Osorio, during a robbery.

On Jan. 22, a Torrance Superior Court jury convicted Jones of first-degree murder, attempted murder, robbery, carjacking and kidnapping. Prosecutors said Garcia resisted being forced out of an ice cream truck on Nov. 14, 1994, and was shot in the chest by Jones. Jones then stole the truck with Osorio inside, after which he shot her in the arm, took her purse and fled. . . .
