Share

Black activists announced plans Thursday for the first multicultural “Million Woman March” through south Los Angeles on June 15, featuring the widow of Malcolm X.

Betty Shabazz has confirmed her participation in the event, said Celes King III, state chairman of the Congress of Racial Equality.

Organizers are planning a 3.2-mile walk that will begin at Crenshaw and Martin Luther King Jr. boulevards and end at Exposition Park with a series of speeches by Shabazz and other participants, King said.

The event will focus on issues that affect families, including crime, gang involvement, teenage pregnancy and education, he said. “We are not excluding anyone,” King said. “It will be open to all people, and we are going to make a broad effort to reach out on a multicultural approach.”
