A 46-year-old man died when his out-of-control car struck an oncoming vehicle near Canyon Country, a California Highway Patrol officer said Sunday.

John Palacpac of Los Angeles was driving west on Vasquez Canyon Road west of Sierra Highway about 6:30 p.m. Saturday when he started to lose control of his car, said CHP Officer Gary Goldberg.

When Palacpac overcorrected, his vehicle veered into the eastbound lanes and collided with the oncoming car, Goldberg said.

“He apparently lost control of his vehicle for some unknown reason, and his car ended up on the eastbound lanes,” Goldberg said. He added that it was unknown how fast Palacpac’s car was traveling.

The second motorist was transported to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital, but that driver’s condition could not be learned Sunday.
