National Geographic Explorer (Sunday 6 p.m. TBS) takes a look at Botswana’s “Lions of Darkness,” reports on the ancient craft of creating “Mr. Mummy” and visits the treacherous Ndoki forests in “Ndoki Adventure.” Boyd Matsons hosts. For ages 6 and up.

Classic tear-inducing family fare can be had with Old Yeller (Sunday 7 p.m. Disney Channel). The story of a Texas pioneer family that adopts a mongrel dog who profoundly affects their lives stars Disney cast favorites Fess Parker, Tommy Kirk and Kevin Corcoran. The 1957 film is based on a book by Fred Gipson. For ages 6 and up.

Lies lead to trouble, as Doug (Tuesday, 7 p.m. Nickelodeon) soon learns in “Doug’s a Big Fat Liar.” His way of getting out of going to a hoedown with Connie lands him in trouble. Tuesday’s other episode, “Doug Wears Tights,” finds him signing up for ballet to be near Patti. For ages 2 and up.

Discovery offers up “The Real Ben Franklin” on this week’s Rediscovering America With David Hartman (Thursday, 10 p.m.), a profile of the man who made many important contributions and created a legacy that affects us today. For ages 8 and up.

Nick’s premiering Space Cases (Saturday, 9 p.m. Nickelodeon) jets into the future and focuses on the adventures of five kids from different parts of the galaxy who learn to work as a team while facing the dangers of space. Former “Power Ranger” Walter Jones is among the stars, and Mark Hamill and George Takei are signed up as guest stars. For ages 6 and up.
