Daytona Reversal: Earnhardt Beats Jarrett in North Carolina
It wasn’t the Daytona 500, but Dale Earnhardt will take it.
A Sunday after he was beaten by Dale Jarrett at Daytona, Earnhardt beat Jarrett to win the Goodwrench Service 400 at the North Carolina Motor Speedway in Rockingham.
Earnhardt, running second to Jarrett, passed him late in the race and stayed in front the rest of the way. Earnhardt took the checkered flag under caution for the 69th victory of his Winston Cup career.
The caution, caused when Bobby Hillin Jr. hit the wall, came out with only two laps remaining at the 1.017-mile oval.
Loy Allen Jr. was involved in the day’s worst accident. He was knocked unconscious and suffered a broken right shoulder blade.
