Boy Severs Fingers in Shop Accident
A 14-year-old Moorpark High School student partially severed four of his fingers in a shop accident Tuesday, a Ventura County Fire Department official said.
The boy, who was not identified, lost portions of his thumb, index finger, ring finger and small finger in the accident at about 7:50 a.m. while working in the school’s workshop, said Capt. Jerry Garner of Fire Station 40 in Moorpark.
After being treated at Simi Valley Adventist Hospital, the boy was rushed to a specialist in the San Fernando Valley to have his fingers reattached, said Jolynn De la Torre, a spokeswoman for the hospital.
“We still don’t know his status,” Assistant Supt. Frank Depasquale said.
