Delays in Reopening Road to Be Discussed

State Assemblyman Brooks Firestone (R-Los Olivos) wants to know why it took more than 10 months to reopen California 150 after the unusually wet winter last year.

He has called for an oversight hearing convened by the Assembly Transportation Committee on Friday in City Council chambers at Ventura City Hall.

Firestone, a member of the transit panel, is concerned about delays by Department of Transportation officials in reopening California 150, one of just two routes connecting Ventura and Santa Barbara counties.

“It distresses me greatly that a significant reason the repairs were delayed and the cost of the project increased was due to the lengthy permitting process,” Firestone said in a statement released Wednesday.

The highway was closed last March after fierce storms eroded much of the road.

It was reopened late last month.

The meeting will be held at 1 p.m. For more information, call 658-9994.
