A new police community service center opened Thursday in Westwood as a home base for officers patrolling the area.
The center is a joint effort between the Los Angeles and UCLA police departments and will give residents a place to file complaints and voice safety concerns.
UCLA officers will work at the center Wednesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Two pairs of LAPD officers will be stationed at the center and will patrol Westwood on foot. Officers already patrolled Westwood, but had been assigned from other divisions.
Mayor Richard Riordan and LAPD Chief Willie Williams were among those who attended Thursday’s opening of the center in a storefront just south of the new Thrifty Drug Store in Westwood Village. The center was proposed by City Councilman Mike Feuer and is the fifth such community service center to open in his district since he took office last summer.
