School District Backs Improvement Measure

Share

The Fullerton School District has adopted a resolution supporting Proposition 203, the $3-billion statewide bond measure that would provide funding for public schools to rebuild, repair, retrofit and construct buildings and wire classrooms for computers and other technology.

Voters will decide the proposition’s fate at the polls March 26.

Should the measure pass, the district will receive about $651,000 to fund the preparation of 12 modernization projects.

The State Allocation Board approved those projects in 1995 but provided no funding.

District officials said the projects, at Acacia, Commonwealth, Fern Drive, Golden Hill, Hermosa Drive, Orangethorpe, Pacific Drive, Raymond, Valencia Park and Woodcrest elementary schools and Ladera Vista and Nicolas junior high schools, include installing air conditioning and upgrading buildings.

The measure is being backed by a statewide coalition that includes the California Chamber of Commerce, the League of Women Voters of California, the Congress of California Seniors, the California Teachers Assn. and the state Parent Teacher Assn.
