A federal grant distributed by the county will give the city $250,000 to help build a downtown community center, and the local YMCA and an elementary school will share an additional $145,000, officials said this week.
Supervisor William G. Steiner, who presented a ceremonial check to Mayor Tom Daly at an Anaheim Chamber of Commerce luncheon Thursday, noted that the money represents the first major awards by the county since it filed for bankruptcy nearly 15 months ago.
Besides the allocation for the community center, $45,000 will go to the Anaheim Family YMCA and $100,000 to Anaheim Hills Elementary School for a playground renovation.
