6 Schools Advance Toward State Honor
Six Ventura County schools moved closer to being selected as California Distinguished Schools after successfully completing the first round of screening for the prestigious award, officials said.
The schools--Sequoia Intermediate and Westlake High in the Conejo Unified School District, Moorpark High in the Moorpark Unified School District, Frank Intermediate in the Oxnard Elementary School District, Adolfo Camarillo High in the Oxnard Union High School District and Simi Valley High in the Simi Valley Unified School District--will now receive a site visit from the California Department of Education within two months.
“I fully expect each of these six schools to be awarded California Distinguished Schools recognition following their California Department of Education visit,” Ventura schools chief Charles Weis said.
If successful, the schools would join 56 other schools in Ventura County that have received the recognition since 1986. For Sequoia Intermediate and Adolfo Camarillo High, it would be the second such award.
The six are among 184 schools selected statewide from an applicant pool of 292. The competition alternates each year between elementary and secondary schools.
