Urgent Care Facility Expands Schedule

Share

A Malibu urgent care facility has extended its hours with the addition of about half a dozen doctors from neighboring Santa Monica this month.

Emergency room doctors from St. John’s Hospital and Health Center in Santa Monica are rotating into the urgent care facility with the additional staff ensuring that the clinic can stay open seven days a week. The Malibu Medical Center--the city’s only urgent care facility with emergency room doctors on staff--had been open only eight hours on weekdays and half a day on Saturday.

The addition of 22 hours a week will help alleviate a health care shortage in the coastal area.

City officials praised the agreement, noting that the seaside city is frequently hit by natural disasters.

“Having access to proper urgent care in times of disaster, as well as for everyday occurrences, is crucial,” said Malibu City Manager David Carmany.
