From Times Wire Reports

Russian Communist Party leader Gennady A. Zyuganov won the support of more than 20 hard-line groups for his presidential election bid, but the “hard left’s” most powerful figure withheld his endorsement. Opinion polls show Zyuganov well ahead of President Boris N. Yeltsin, who is seeking a second term in the June 16 election. Viktor I. Anpilov, whose Working Russia movement almost won seats in parliament in December’s election, said he could not back the coalition because its charter does not mention a re-creation of the Soviet Union as an aim.
