St. John Knits Inc.: The Irvine designer, manufacturer and marketer of women’s clothing and accessories posted net income of $5.7 million, or 69 cents a share, for the fiscal first quarter, up 43% from the $4 million, or 48 cents a share, for the same period last year. Sales for the quarter ended Jan. 28 increased 25% to $45.3 million from $36.3 million.
