Pepperdine basketball Coach Lorenzo Romar has named Randy Bennett, an assistant at the University of San Diego, to his staff.

Bennett joins Darwin Cook and Kenny Ammann as assistants on the new staff, which met with players Wednesday.

“It was just an introductory meeting,” Romar said. “We let the players get to know us.”

Bennett was a full-time assistant at San Diego for the past eight seasons, and before that he was a part-time assistant for two years at Idaho. Bennett, a 1986 graduate of UC San Diego, played basketball for two seasons at UCSD and two seasons at Mesa Junior College.

With Bennett, Cook and Ammann, Romar has assembled a staff with recruiting ties throughout California. Cook, a former Crenshaw High standout, is known in Los Angeles neighborhoods. Ammann played high school basketball in Orange County and has coached the past few years in Northern California after playing at Stanford.
