Dodgers Might Be Blessed at Shortstop
Hallelujah! L.A. has finally been blessed with a real shortstop for the first time since Bill Russell retired.
Greg Gagne [“Amazing Grace,” March 4] should be respected for his beliefs, but that won’t mean much to me, or anyone else, if he doesn’t maintain his focus on the little white ball. He was brought here to play the game, not spread the word.
A decade ago, a misguided born-again Christian named Eric Show managed to single-handedly destroy the chemistry of the San Diego Padres. Now he’s dead by his own hands.
Let’s pray that Gagne will practice moderation in his advocacy and just play ball for the Dodgers.

Thank you for the very fine article regarding the new Dodger shortstop. It is such a pleasure to read an article about a born-again Christian and not have him blasted.

Speaking of the defensive difference that Gagne will make at shortstop, Chipper Jones suggested, “It might be the difference between a 5-4 win and a 4-3 loss.” Sorry, Chipper, but defensively speaking, there is no difference between a 5-4 win and a 4-3 loss.

Will we ever be free of Jose Offerman and his whining? He’s gone. We can only hope our reporters will forget him. Let the Kansas City reporters fill up their columns with his complaints.
