Regarding Christopher Reynolds’ Travel Insider on courier travel (“The Ultimate Cheap Package Tour,” Feb. 4):

Twice in less than three years and using two of the companies listed in Reynolds’ article, I experienced life in two Pacific Rim countries. September, 1993, was Destination Tokyo, courtesy of IBC Pacific’s courier service via Singapore Airlines. Using the $700 I saved on air fare, I purchased a Japan Rail Pass that enabled me to sightsee around Honshu Island during my nine-day restricted stay. Better still was Jupiter Air’s four-week Australia stay in April, 1995. The courier ticket savings on United allowed me to purchase an Ansett Air Pass so I could visit four more cities in addition to my Melbourne entry point.
