City Rejects Offer to Use Simi Dump

The Ventura City Council has rejected an invitation to commit to sending a portion of the city’s trash to the Simi Valley Landfill.
The council decided Monday not to enter into an exclusive agreement with the East County Solid Waste Task Force, a consortium of cities that would commit to dumping a certain amount of trash at the landfill.
City officials said the joint powers agreement was too restrictive and incompatible with the city’s competitive recycling and trash-disposal system.
Ventura’s trash is handled by a variety of haulers and recyclers, and is dumped at both the Simi Valley Landfill and Bailard Landfill in Oxnard.
Ventura County’s 10 cities were asked to respond to the task force’s invitation by March 15.
